Investigators
Nicholas L. Smith, PhD, is the Director of the Seattle ERIC and Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Washington. His research interests include chronic disease and cardiovascular epidemiology, clinical epidemiology, and health services research. Much of his research portfolio involves pharmacoepidemiology and genetics. Dr. Smith has been directing the Seattle ERIC and the VET Registry since 2006 and has been active in VA epidemiologic and health services research for over 20 years.
Edward J. Boyko, MD, MPH, is a former Director of the Seattle ERIC. He has devoted the last 20 years to epidemiologic research focused on several acute and chronic diseases, as well as epidemiologic methods, particularly the assessment of diagnostic tests. Dr. Boyko is a Staff Physician in General Internal Medicine at VA Puget Sound Health Care System. He has broad experience in conducting epidemiologic research on Veteran and non-veteran populations requiring both primary data collection and secondary data analysis. He has a particular interest in the epidemiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus and its complications. Dr. Boyko brings to ERIC an extensive knowledge of epidemiologic research, familiarity with VA clinical systems and awareness of the clinical concerns of Veterans and VA administrators. eboyko@u.washington.edu
Alyson Littman, PhD, MPH, is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Washington and an Investigator at the Seattle-Denver Center of Innovation for Veteran-Centered & Value Driven Care. Her research focuses on physical activity and obesity and prevention of chronic disease risk. She is involved in studies and proposals which investigate physical activity promotion interventions in people with physical disabilities, the causes and consequences of lower extremity amputation, and evaluations for the VA weight management programs. alyson@u.washington.edu
Pradeep Suri, MD, MSc, is a Staff Physician at VA Puget Sound Health Care System and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at University of Washington. He has clinical and research experience in back pain, spinal disorders, and mild traumatic brain injury (TBI).
